The ideal candidate combines hands-on construction knowledge with strong financial oversight, proactive communication, and independent problem-solving. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity based in the Hamilton, Ontario area, with regular in-person collaboration and some flexibility for remote work.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules in collaboration with construction leadership, ensuring milestones are clear, delays are identified early, and recovery plans are implemented when necessary.
  • Coordinate project priorities across teams, monitor commitments, and proactively resolve or escalate issues that could affect schedules, budgets, quality of delivery, or client satisfaction.
  • Prepare project budgets, track actual and committed costs, forecast costs to completion, and implement corrective measures to protect gross margins.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial forecasts to accounting and maintain visibility into project financial performance.
  • Coordinate trade quotations, review scopes of work, and support vendor selection and trade awarding in collaboration with the Construction Manager.

  • Maintain consistent client communication throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring clients understand project status, upcoming milestones, changes, and closeout requirements.
  • Improve project management processes, workflows, and systems, including evaluating and implementing appropriate software solutions.
  • Ensure schedules, budgets, task assignments, CRM records, and project documentation remain accurate, current, and consistently maintained.
  • Lead and support the project coordinator by assigning responsibilities, reviewing work, monitoring progress, and following up to ensure commitments are completed.
  • Track and report key performance indicators through weekly leadership meetings, performance scorecards, and quarterly priorities.
  • Coordinate effectively with field operations while respecting the Construction Manager's responsibility for site execution, trade activities, construction quality, safety, and inspections.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Project Manager in residential construction or renovation, with experience in multi-unit residential projects considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop project schedules and job-cost budgets and manage projects through completion and closeout with minimal supervision.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the construction process, including permitting, trade sequencing, inspections, project handover, and the Ontario Building Code.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget development, cost tracking, forecasting, margin protection, and identifying cost variances before they become significant issues.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and vendors, reviewing quotations and scopes, managing trade agreements, and administering purchase orders and change orders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with scheduling or project management platforms such as MS Project, Procore, or Buildertrend.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects, maintain accurate documentation, and establish reliable workflows.
