About this role at Y99000 General Electric Company
Job Description Summary
As part of the GE Aerospace Digital Technology organization supporting the Defense & Systems (D&S) business, the Senior Director, Technical Product Management leads product management across the Defense and Systems Customer Experience (DSCX) portfolio. This is a people-leadership role covering capture management, government pricing, systems pricing, contracts, government property, government business, and the sustainment and fleet analytics portfolio. This person will own the product operating model: the roadmap standard, the prioritization framework, and outcome governance. This person will lead the technical product managers and UX designers who set direction, translate business outcomes into prioritized backlogs, and partner with Engineering to ship capabilities that move measurable results across Federal and commercial markets.
Job Description
Why This Role Exists
DSCX owns 30+ digital products for Defense & Systems. Today our technical product managers wear three hats for their products: product management, project management, and operations. We are dividing that load across three dedicated functions, and this role will build out the product management discipline. This role is planned to have 8-10 direct reports across product managers and UX designers. Your charge is to build a sustainable operating model including standard processes and artifacts, a clear prioritization framework, and a team you coach and train to execute against it. You should be experienced with AI and know where it creates opportunity to expand what the team can deliver.
Environment
The DSCX portfolio runs primarily on AWS, Palantir Foundry, or through SaaS based 3rd party solutions, with on-premise implementations supported for customers whose data sensitivity requires it. Delivery runs through Rally and Microsoft Teams and ServiceNow is our system of record for incident, change, and defect management. Monitoring and alerting tooling varies by application across the portfolio, and consolidating it is part of this organization's work. Vulnerability scanning is owned by the Defense & Systems security organization under the Business Information Security Officer (BISO); our teams are accountable for closing what they report inside the severity SLAs the BISO sets.
The portfolio carries a $25+MM annual budget across 30+ products.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Strategy and Roadmap
- Own the product roadmap standard used across all DSCX product areas, so roadmaps are consistent and comparable across teams.
- Accountable for a two to three year roadmap (including NorthStar vision) for each product and product area.
- Define the prioritization framework (e.g., RICE) each product manager uses to sequence work, and hold its application consistent.
- Drive feature development one to two quarters ahead and story development one to two sprints ahead, in partnership with Software Engineering.
2. Outcomes and Governance
- Define KPIs, success metrics, and OKRs for each product.
- Run Daily Visual Management for the portfolio. Product health, delivery status, and blockers are visible daily rather than assembled monthly, and you own the KPIs that roll into the monthly operating review.
- Hold the team accountable for measurable outcomes, not feature counts. Every shipped capability needs an answer to what it moved.
3. Technical Product Leadership
- Ensure PRDs and INVEST-quality user stories with clear acceptance criteria across the portfolio.
- Use opportunity solution trees so every roadmap item traces to a business outcome, and require the same of your product managers.
- Partner with Engineering on technical design, sequencing, and delivery within enterprise architecture and data governance standards.
4. Stakeholder and Relationship Management
- Serve as the key product relationship manager for the D&S business, operationalized through a maintained stakeholder map per product area covering who, cadence, and decision rights.
- Run a recurring touchpoint cadence, including monthly business reviews per product line.
- Own the funding and business case pipeline: what has been requested versus approved for each product area.
- Maintain a log of open asks and decisions needed from the business, and drive each to closure.
5. People and Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop the product management and UX team; own hiring, performance management, and talent development.
- Set the standard for product craft: discovery, roadmap management, INVEST-quality stories, and outcome accountability.
- Build a bench of product talent and a culture of continuous improvement using FLIGHT DECK, the GE Aerospace lean operating model, latest AI technology, industry product best practices, and user-centric design.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience, OR Associate's degree with a minimum of 13 years of…
